Portland Notes: Mar. 9, 2007

Portland International Airport said on March 5 it expected to have served its 300 millionth passenger since beginning operations 66 years ago. PDX also apparently set an all-time record of more than 14 million passengers served in 2006.
The Portland Saturday Market, now in its 33rd year, is once again open for business.
A new book titled Read Portland: The City in Prose has gotten a write up in the Portland Mercury. The book, which engages in a “literary exploration of the city’s past and present” via almost eighty written selections of various authors and forms of written word, is available now and will be the subject of a book signing and discussion Monday evening at Powell’s Books on Hawthorne.
MacTarnahan’s Brewing Co., formerly Portland Brewing Co., is throwing a party to celebrate turning 21, according to the beer blog Guest on Tap. This party, dubbed “Mac’s Madness” will be happening at the brewery’s Tap Room starting at 5 p.m. on March 14.
And if you are still thirsty after Mac’s Madness, a new book out by local author Cindy Anderson titled Portland Happy Hour Guidebook is now available at various retail outlets around the city. This book, talked about in The Oregonian, has also spawned a Happy Hour Club so you don’t feel you have to drink alone.
If you love bears, you’ll want to get yourself over to the Oregon Zoo on Saturday as they are formally unveiling Black Bear Ridge, the final component of the Cascade Canyon Trail portion of the Great Northwest Exhibit.
