Portland Hood to Coast Relay Coming Up

relayPortland Hood to Coast is coming up this month. Even if you’re not going to be running on a team, it’s a great event to head out and watch of volunteer for. And while it’s too late to register for this year’s event, it’s never too early to learn more about it and plan ahead for next year! Here’s what you need to know:

What is it?
Only the “largest running relay race in the world” according to the official website! It’s a 197 mile relay race from the top of Mt. Hood to Seaside (or, if you’re not up to that distance, a shorter trip which begins in Portland and ends in Seaside).

When is it?
The 2007 edition - the 26th annual - is the weekend of August 24-25.

What if I hate running?
There’s a Portland to Coast Walk, too.

There’s lots more information on the Portland Hood to Coast website, including the tidbit that registration for this year’s race was already full on opening day - so if you’re interested for the 2008 edition, you’d best get your team together now and be ready.

That’s so awesome. I’m not a big fan of marathons or triathalons but the idea of the “world’s biggest running relay race” just fascinates the bejeezus out of me. It would be so fun to create a wild, crazy, awesome teams with all of your friends. Reminds me of the movie Dodgeball.

Anyways, this is a great local blog, and if you ever need to find local content for it, check us out.
