There are a number of gyms in PDX, but as far as the chain-gang goes, nothing beats out 24 Hour Fitness. With two locations in the city center (downtown and the Pearl), two in NE, two in Vancouver, Washington and a number in the surrounding suburbs, it’s no wonder that they get a sizable amount of traffic (even if there is hardly ever enough parking).
Yesterday, the Hollywood gym in NE opened in a new space across the street. There’s a parking garage, a swimming pool and *lots* more space. The event was staffed by hundreds of 24 hour-ers from all over the country, eager and willing to take your money and show up the brand new club.
I’m thrilled to have it, but I’m a little worried about three things: the traffic buildup exiting the parking garage, the fewer spin bikes (and no dedicated spin room) and the odd, elongated room for classes, making it hard to see the teacher.
They are still working out a few kinks, but the gym should be open for workouts by the weekend.
